Each daily devotion features a three-part application segment:
- Reflect: This usually includes one or two additional scriptures to read, plus reflection questions.
- Renovate: This delves deeper into your heart, exploring your thoughts, feelings, and what I sum up as “soul clutter.”
- Respond: This closing section consists of a prayer, listening to a song, or further reflection.

About the Author
Valerie Griffin is passionate about inspiring others to renew their hearts and homes. She has worked in the interior design business for over twenty years, creating places clients love coming home to.
Valerie has furnished her online space, valeriegriffin.com, as a place for spiritual growth and renewal. Her writing approach is similar to her process for designing a room: she gathers coordinating thoughts, pulls from a palette of experiences, and anchors it all with truth from scripture—to furnish a space where the soul connects with the Creator. She believes the process of renewing our hearts is the most rewarding renovation on earth because the ripple effects extend to our home in heaven. Valerie and her husband live in the Austin area with their four children.

FAQs
Is this a Devotional or Bible Study?
I call Renew a Heart Guide because it’s more in depth than a typical daily devotional, but not as intense as a typical Bible Study. Each day has a short reading along with application questions. Scripture references are provided for further reading, so you can delve deeper and study on your own. This book offers flexibility for the reader to spend as little as 10 minutes and the guidance to study and journal more if desired.
Who is this book for?
Renew is for anyone who desires God to refresh their heart. I wrote this book because I wanted something more out of my quiet times. While Bible Studies are great resources for us to study and learn the Word, I feel rushed and discouraged when I don’t have 30-45 minutes to devote every day to the study. And, while short daily devotionals help me start my day on the right track, I often forget what I’ve read by noon.
Maybe you can relate?
If so, then Renew is for you. Each week has a theme, so we can remember and build on what we are learning. I believe God speaks directly to our hearts through his Word, so reading and pondering a scripture can be transformative to our day. Each daily reading lists at least one (but often several) scriptures for us to go deeper. I also include song selections to listen to so that our worship echoes the weekly themes.
If you desire God to renew your heart, and you’d like a fresh framework to guide your time with him, Renew is for you.
Can I read Renew with a group?
Absolutely! The book has daily questions and weekly reflection questions. This gives group leaders options and the flexibility to choose from a variety of questions for their gathering.
If you are reading Renew with a group, I’d love to hear about it! Tell me here about your group, or message/tag me on Facebook or Instagram.
