In the hymn, Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing, Robert Robinson wrote a a lyrical treasure I love.
Tune my heart to sing Thy grace.
I know a bit about tuning. My years playing flute in band (and especially when I moved up to the shrill piccolo) gave me insight into the necessity of each instrument playing in tune with each other. Sometimes our horns were flat, or lower in pitch. Sometimes our horns were sharp, or higher in pitch. When musicians adjust their sound to the middle of the pitch, the piece sings as it should.
So it is in our hearts.
There are days we need God to lift us up out of stress, sadness, or aimlessness.
There are days we need God to lower us from self focus, pride, and entitlement.
Whether we are feeling high or low, giving thanks to God centers our heart on him. Notes of our lives play his eternal rhythm of grace.
Like me, maybe your heart could use a little tuning, too?
Here’s a playlist of songs to tune our hearts to the One who made us, loves us, redeems us, and blesses us beyond measure. May gratefulness be the soundtrack of our souls.
