I’m striving not to become frazzled from the frenzy of this festive time of year.
How?
By taking time for wonder.
How about a little less hustle and hurry this advent season and more intentional awe and amazement for the One who came that holy night?
“Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord.”
Luke 2:10-11
This is one of my favorite lines in all of scripture.
Because God hand-delivered the news through an angel.
Because it was spoken to a posse of ordinary people.
Because the message is directed at fear.
Because it’s hopeful.
Because it’s all-inclusive.
Because it nods to our need for salvation.
All of the above and more.
When my boys were preschoolers, we memorized this verse together. Hearing their sweet voices say, “for ALLLLLLL the people!” made my heart swell with gratitude at the magnitude of Christ’s coming.
My sweet daughter is now learning the verse too. I prompt her with “do not be afraid,” and we repeat the angel’s words together.
And really? Isn’t it what we all need to repeat in the face of fear?
For all of us, Jesus came.
Hope for all.
Our good news.
Our invitation to step into the wonders of His love.
